Signup form privacy notice: what to put under your email field

The moment someone types their email address is the moment the law expects you to tell them what happens to it. ShipPatrol checks the forms on your site for a privacy link or notice nearby.

Why it matters

Data protection law asks for information "at the time" you collect personal data. A link in the footer helps; a short line under the form is what people actually read. California calls this a notice at collection.

How Patch checks

We look at every form we can see that asks for an email address or a password, and check for a privacy link or privacy wording inside it or right next to it. We never type into or submit your forms.

How to fix it

  1. Under each form on the affected pages, add one plain line, for example: "We'll use your email to [what you use it for]. See our privacy policy."
  2. Link "privacy policy" to your policy page.
  3. If you add people to a mailing list, say so here and add an unticked opt-in box.

Your own report goes further: it names the exact pages, services and settings Patch found on your site, and with a full report you get a fix prompt to paste into Lovable, Bolt or Cursor.
