Withdrawal button checker: the EU "withdraw from contract here" rule

Since 19 June 2026, EU consumers who buy online must be able to withdraw with a button labelled "withdraw from contract here". ShipPatrol looks for one on the pages it can see.

Why it matters

Article 11a of the EU Consumer Rights Directive, added by Directive (EU) 2023/2673, applies to every distance contract made through a website or app that carries a right of withdrawal, not only financial services. The withdrawal function has to be labelled "withdraw from contract here" or something just as clear, be prominently displayed, and stay available for the whole 14-day withdrawal period. A "confirm withdrawal" step and an acknowledgement on a durable medium follow. Your pre-contract information also has to say where the button is.

How Patch checks

If your site sells to consumers (a subscription or a shop), we look for withdrawal wording ("withdraw from contract", "Vertrag widerrufen", "se rétracter du contrat" and similar) in the homepage, the pricing page and the link labels across the pages we crawl. We can't see inside customer accounts, so if your button lives there, check its label and that customers can find it.

How to fix it

  1. Add a link or button labelled "Withdraw from contract here" where customers can always find it during the 14-day withdrawal period, for example in the footer and in the account area.
  2. It should open a short form that asks only for the customer's name, which contract, and where to send the confirmation, with a single button labelled "Confirm withdrawal".
  3. Send an acknowledgement by email straight away, with what was submitted and the date and time.
  4. Mention the withdrawal function and where to find it in your terms and order confirmation.

Your own report goes further: it names the exact pages, services and settings Patch found on your site, and with a full report you get a fix prompt to paste into Lovable, Bolt or Cursor.

Where this applies

Applies to sales to consumers in the EU. It does not apply where there is no right of withdrawal, such as digital content the buyer agreed to receive straight away.
