Button name accessibility checker: icon buttons screen readers can't read

An icon-only button (a hamburger, a cross, an arrow) looks obvious and sounds like "button" to a screen reader. ShipPatrol checks with axe.

Why it matters

If people can't tell what a button does, they can't use your menu, close your dialog or submit your form.

How Patch checks

We run the axe-core "button-name" rule on your homepage and two other pages.

How to fix it

  1. Add an aria-label to each icon-only button, for example aria-label="Open menu".

Your own report goes further: it names the exact pages, services and settings Patch found on your site, and with a full report you get a fix prompt to paste into Lovable, Bolt or Cursor.

Where this applies

WCAG 2.2 AA is the reference standard.
